Die Cut, Kiss Cut, and Transfer Cut Decals

The main differences between these three cut options, comes down to the paper backing on each decal.

Die-Cut decal

Die-Cut

Die-cut means that we are cutting through both the vinyl decal material and the paper backing. This cut type doesn't leave any material around the decal. Another way to look at it is to think of it like a "cookie cutter." Your decals are all individually cut out to the contour of your design, so you have individually cut decals with no paper material around the design.

* Please note – Back Slit (Crack and Peel) is only available on our Standard and Permanent material options *

Kiss Cut Decal

Kiss-Cut

Kiss-cut means we are only cutting through the vinyl layer ("decal material") and not cutting through the paper backing, leaving a paper material border around your decal. When you choose a kiss-cut decal, you will have extra material around your decal for easy peeling.

Transfer Cut Decal

Transfer-Cut

Transfer cut option means that we will be cutting the vinyl decal material to a specified shape, graphic or text and then removing or “picking” any excess or unwanted vinyl material from your design leaving no vinyl background on your decal. We then place a transfer tape over the top of the remaining pieces of vinyl. This tape is what holds all the individual cut pieces of your decal design once you remove the paper backing from your decal. It also allows you to place multiple individual pieces of vinyl decal material on your desired surface cleanly and evenly.

* Vector File (EPS or Ai – Adobe Illustrator) format needed for Transfer Cut decals. *

Transfer Cut / Pick Charge

Transfer cut price includes 8 standard picks with a Maximum of 40 picks per sq. foot.

Additional picks are $0.02 to $0.04 per pick depending on difficulty/intricacy.

Intricately cut decals will be custom quoted based on difficulty and time required to pick.

For more information visit our transfer cut guidelines.

Vector Art

Vector art consists of lines and curves that are mathematically defined objects. When viewing art in key line mode you can see the points or vectors when connecting your lines and curves. They can also be seen when using the pen tool or editing the points along a path. Vector art is ideal for type and drawn shapes because they can be enlarged to any size while maintaining crisp outlines and details without sacrificing quality. The distance between the vectors is calculated mathematically and is not dependent upon resolution.

Raster Art

Raster images consist of colored squares, called pixels. They are created by combining a series of various colored pixels. Digital photographs are made up of pixels. If you view a raster image at 200% or more you are able to see the individual pixels that make up the image. Raster images are dependent upon resolution so image enlargement is limited by the individual size at which the file was created. If a file is produced at a size that is larger than its resolution will allow, the quality will decrease. Printing a low resolution file will result in pixelation. Individual pixels are large enough to be easily discernable. Increasing the resolution will not solve this problem is there are not enough pixels to begin with. The program will add more pixels based upon the estimation of their location and will then assign their neighboring pixels's color value. This may cause an image to look muddy.

If submitting these files, please follow the guidelines below:

  • 100% scale (full size output) at 100 dpi
  • 50% scale at 200 dpi or higher
  • 25% scale at 300 dpi or higher
  • 10% scale at 600-1200 dpi recommended

Frequently Asked Questions Return to Top

Product Information

What surfaces can vinyl window graphics be placed on?

Vinyl Window Graphics are intended for use on windows and other glass surfaces. See our custom wall decals product for even more applications!

Will the decal leave any sticky residue behind?

We use a removable adhesive on our window decals so they can be removed cleanly. If some residue is left behind, use a light cleaning solution to remove it.

What are the differences between window stickers, perforated window vinyl and vinyl window decals?

In general, window stickers are what dealerships place in a car window to display specs and information about the vehicle. They do this so customers (or potential ones) roaming the parking lot looking at cars get a better understanding of base price and features.
Window perfs or perforated window vinyl is what you would see on the large storefront windows of a shopping center. Big box stores also use these so they can display branding and sales that will get noticed form the interstate or frontage roads.
Our vinyl window decals, or vinyl graphics, are like stickers, technically every decal is a sticker, but their purpose is slightly different. The common use for our vinyl decals is smaller messaging or graphics on storefront windows or just for basic custom window decals.

What material is used for your vinyl window graphics?

We offer two vinyl material options for our vinyl window graphics. Our standard vinyl material is made from calendered vinyl that has a three to five-year outdoor durability lifespan when properly applied and maintained.

If you are looking for something more durable we recommend our hi-performance vinyl which is made from a cast vinyl material that has up to an 8 year outdoor durability lifespan when properly applied and maintained. This material features air release technology for smoother application.

Can I use multiple colors, fonts and images in my design?

Yes you can, because we digitally print all our decals, you can use as many fonts, colors, and images as you want at no extra charge.

The only time color will affect your price is if you request a color match proof. If you need a color match proof, please contact us to speak with one of our friendly customer service reps!

Do your decals have a glossy or matte finish?

Our vinyl window graphics are available in either a gloss or matte finish.

Are your custom vinyl window graphics repositionable?

We do not recommend trying to reposition our decals after installation. While they will remove cleanly if you take them off, reapplying them will likely be unsuccessful since the adhesive is only designed for single installations.

If you are looking for a removable window decal option, we suggest you order our custom window cling product. This product is printed on a low tack adhesive window cling material that allows it to be removed and applied multiple times.

How large can my decal be?

Our vinyl window graphics can be printed up to 120” wide and 52” high. You can create larger displays by combining multiple decal panels together. Please contact us if you need an extra large decal and we will guide you through the process.

Will my design impact the pricing of my decal?

Colors, fonts, and images will not affect the pricing of your window graphic. The only factors that will impact the price of your decal are the size and quantity you order and whether you request a color match proof. If you need a color match proof, please contact us to speak with one of our friendly customer service reps!

What is the lifespan of your vinyl window graphics?

Material Lifespan (when properly applied & maintained)
Standard Vinyl 3-5 years
High Performance Vinyl Up to 8 years
