Die Cut, Kiss Cut, and Transfer Cut Decals

The main differences between these three cut options, comes down to the paper backing on each decal.

Die-Cut decal

Die-Cut

Die-cut means that we are cutting through both the vinyl decal material and the paper backing. This cut type doesn't leave any material around the decal. Another way to look at it is to think of it like a "cookie cutter." Your decals are all individually cut out to the contour of your design, so you have individually cut decals with no paper material around the design.

* Please note – Back Slit (Crack and Peel) is only available on our Standard and Permanent material options *

Kiss Cut Decal

Kiss-Cut

Kiss-cut means we are only cutting through the vinyl layer ("decal material") and not cutting through the paper backing, leaving a paper material border around your decal. When you choose a kiss-cut decal, you will have extra material around your decal for easy peeling.

Transfer Cut Decal

Transfer-Cut

Transfer cut option means that we will be cutting the vinyl decal material to a specified shape, graphic or text and then removing or “picking” any excess or unwanted vinyl material from your design leaving no vinyl background on your decal. We then place a transfer tape over the top of the remaining pieces of vinyl. This tape is what holds all the individual cut pieces of your decal design once you remove the paper backing from your decal. It also allows you to place multiple individual pieces of vinyl decal material on your desired surface cleanly and evenly.

* Vector File (EPS or Ai – Adobe Illustrator) format needed for Transfer Cut decals. *

Transfer Cut / Pick Charge

Transfer cut price includes 8 standard picks with a Maximum of 40 picks per sq. foot.

Additional picks are $0.02 to $0.04 per pick depending on difficulty/intricacy.

Intricately cut decals will be custom quoted based on difficulty and time required to pick.

Vector Art

Vector art consists of lines and curves that are mathematically defined objects. When viewing art in key line mode you can see the points or vectors when connecting your lines and curves. They can also be seen when using the pen tool or editing the points along a path. Vector art is ideal for type and drawn shapes because they can be enlarged to any size while maintaining crisp outlines and details without sacrificing quality. The distance between the vectors is calculated mathematically and is not dependent upon resolution.

Raster Art

Raster images consist of colored squares, called pixels. They are created by combining a series of various colored pixels. Digital photographs are made up of pixels. If you view a raster image at 200% or more you are able to see the individual pixels that make up the image. Raster images are dependent upon resolution so image enlargement is limited by the individual size at which the file was created. If a file is produced at a size that is larger than its resolution will allow, the quality will decrease. Printing a low resolution file will result in pixelation. Individual pixels are large enough to be easily discernable. Increasing the resolution will not solve this problem is there are not enough pixels to begin with. The program will add more pixels based upon the estimation of their location and will then assign their neighboring pixels's color value. This may cause an image to look muddy.

If submitting these files, please follow the guidelines below:

  • 100% scale (full size output) at 100 dpi
  • 50% scale at 200 dpi or higher
  • 25% scale at 300 dpi or higher
  • 10% scale at 600-1200 dpi recommended

Product Information

What material is used for your vinyl wall graphics?

Our wall decals come in two variations: digitally printed on either a 3-millimeter standard tack adhesive vinyl or a 3-millimeter extreme tack adhesive vinyl. The standard tack vinyl provides UV protection and scratch resistance, guarding against fading and scratches, ensuring durability for up to 5 years outdoors when applied and maintained properly.

On the other hand, the extreme tack vinyl is ideal for low-energy surfaces, boasting superior adhesion. Its lamination also offers UV protection and scratch resistance, ensuring longevity with a lifespan of 3–5 years when correctly applied and maintained.

Both variants sport a matte finish, adding a sleek touch to any space.

What are some usual applications for vinyl wall graphics?

Vinyl wall graphics are a great way to decorate your home or office with wall art! Some of the more common uses we see are inspirational quotes in athletic rooms, offices, or homes. Small businesses also use these graphics and custom window decals to create great looking branding inside and outside their shops.
Wall decor for your bedroom, kitchen, living room, or bathroom. Beautiful decorate the nursery or kids room with scripture or fun sayings.
Use custom wall decals for business logos or company mottos. Add them to break or waiting rooms to brighten them up for your employees or customers.

What surfaces can vinyl wall graphics be placed on?

These graphics adhere best when placed on smooth, non-porous surfaces like smooth or painted walls, metal, glass, plastic and tile. We do not recommend placing these decals on brick, concrete, or any rough or porous surface as they will not properly adhere.

Please note: wall decal or wall sticker materials may not stick to every type of paint. This is due to the paint chemical compositions, wall texture, paint finishes and proper cure time. Read our article, It’s Likely the Paint: Why Wall Decals Won’t Stick.

To ensure your decal or sticker will adhere to your wall, order a sample packet and try it out.

Why won’t my wall graphics stick?

Some paints contain something called no-VOC or low-VOC components. Basically that just means it is more fire retardant, and smudge proof. The higher the VOC in something, the easier it is to burn.

The industrial manufacturer 3M says, ”Paints that are low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are now the most commonly available wall paint. These newer paint formulations are being driven by laws intended to help protect the environment – something we can all appreciate. However, the new paint formulations have reduced how well a film’s adhesive can adhere to a painted wall. “

Also according to 3M, “With the rapidly changing  formulations of paints, there is no single film or adhesive from any film manufacturer that works best on all painted surfaces.”

Wall decals may also not stick due to the wall texture and temperature fluctuations.

Can I add many different colors, fonts and images to my design?

Yes, you ou can use multiple fonts, colors, and images at no extra cost

The only instance that color will affect your price is if you request a color match proof. If you need a color match proof, please contact us to speak with one of our friendly customer service representatives.

Do your vinyl wall graphics have a glossy or matte finish?

Our wall graphics have a matte finish.

Are your vinyl wall graphics repositionable?

Our wall decals may be repositionable at the time of application. However, once the decal is fully applied it will maintain its position and cannot be reused or repositioned.

How large can my vinyl wall graphic be?

We have a max print width of 120” and a max print height of 52” anything larger than 52 inches wide will require your decal to be printed in panels.

Common Uses

Will these decals damage your walls or paint?

With proper application and removal, standard tack vinyl wall decals shouldn't damage your walls, paint, or wallpaper. However, be cautious with extreme tack adhesive wall decals, as they may cause damage upon removal. These high tack wall decals are intended for surfaces that require extra adhesion due to high VOC paints.

It's worth noting that leaving a decal on a wall for an extended period may result in some paint peeling when you remove it.
